Meet the Teacher Librarian
After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a BA in Spanish and Deaf Education and an MA in Deaf Education, I began my career in education at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf teaching elementary school for two years and high school Spanish and Social Studies for two years. In 1989, I moved to California to the California School for the Deaf, Riverside to teach middle school Social Studies for four years. I then became a Curriculum Resource Specialist for two and a half years. Upon returning 'home' to Phoenix in 1995, I again worked at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf teaching elementary school for a half year and then moving into the library for three years. I made the move to public school in 1999 when I became the Library Media Specialist at the two middle schools in Cave Creek. In August 2002 I was finally able to start working in the Deer Valley school district, when I got a job in the Library Media Center at Bellair Elementary. I worked there for three years and then transferred to Anthem School to work in the community where I have lived since November 1999. Other than my professional life, I have been married to Jay Kopas since 1987, and we have four (4) sons, who all attend Deer Valley schools. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading, camping, fishing, hiking and watching my kids play sports. If you have any questions or comments, contact me at: Melody.Holehan-Kopas@an.dvusd.org 1641
